This morning Coral was reciting some of the nursery rhymes that she knows. She gave us a great rendition of Old Mother Hubbard, it was really quite impressive. When she was done she exclaimed, “Our poor dogs have none food! They’re laying down and are sad.”
Indeed, she is correct that we are all out of dog food. And I also think she’s right that the dogs are sad about that. However, I don’t think we’re at the point quite yet where I would call them “poor dogs.”
Our bedtime routine with Coral varies a little from night to night but the general process goes like this:
1. Mommy reads books to Coral in bed, and maybe sings a song.
2. Daddy reads 1 book to Coral in bed, sings two songs, puts her music on, and says goodnight.
3. (Lately she has then wanted one last tuck in from mommy.)
Well, step 2 can sometimes be a challenge because picking one last book is hard. Sometimes it’s not hard, Coral just picks a book for me and I read it. A lot of times she asks me to pick the book and when I ask her which one she says, “one that I love the best.” I’m still trying to figure out which book that is. Other times, mommy has to come back up and pick the one that Coral loves the best.
Tonight, she told me to pick the book but then vetoed each book I picked. I kept asking her which book she wanted. Finally, she said, “Clifford I Love You.” It was great that she gave me an answer - but I didn’t know which book that was. We have a bunch of Clifford books but I hadn’t heard of that one. “Clifford’s Tricks?” I asked.
“No, not that one,” she replied.
“Clifford’s Family?”
“No.”
“Clifford and the Big Storm?”
“Uh Oh….”
“What?” I asked.
“We don’t have that one,” she replied.
“Which one, Clifford I Love You?”
“Yeah, we don’t have that one… It’s at Meme’s house.”
We’re getting our kitchen redone. They tore down the wall and “discovered” pipes in them. It wasn’t so much of a discovery since we knew there were pipes in the wall - but I think looking at them by themselves made everyone realize the challenge. The question was if they would be able to reroute the pipes through the exterior wall or not.
Well, today it looks like they managed to make it work. There’s still a lot to be done on the kitchen but this major hurdle seems to be over with.
Well, not yet. In fact, right now it’s more like “No Kitchen” since they ripped out our old one. Hopefully, they’ll put a new one in. Assuming they can figure out what to do with those ugly pipes. Yikes!
